About

Emily Cronin is an American multidisciplinary artist of Parsi Indian and Irish descent. Born, raised, and currently based in New York, Cronin graduated from LaGuardia Arts High School and attended programs including Cooper Union Saturday Outreach and Cow House Studios’ Art on the Farm. She is currently studying art education at Macaulay Honors Queens College.
Working across painting, drawing, photography, video, and sound, Cronin’s art explores the themes of memory, time, control, and power, usually through ancestral history or the backdrop of her native city.
She received the Girl Scout Gold Award in 2020 for addressing gender inequality in the art world by creating an online blog and community (@outsightart) to educate youth about the women artists forgotten by history and steps made toward equal representation in the arts.
Some of her recent works include a painting series using Google Earth as a reference of places she has a connection to but has never been, as well as a project focusing on the idea of comparing past and present through protest photography. Her work has been featured on The International Center of Photography's Instagram, The New York Public Library Zine's 2020 Issue, and Building Beats' blog.
